The contest medals in chat are for the players and guild members who placed in ranks 1-3 in the most recent contest. The medals are moved to the top ranking people automatically when the next contest happens.

Players do gain medals in the top 10, in the hall of fame, not in chat. Chat is reserved for the top 3.
